Custom Mechanics: Talens

These are new talens created by players and STs and sanctioned for use in the Camarilla UK.

Any werewolf can create a talen, provided she knows the Fetish Rite (W:tF p. 162). Werewolves often use talens as a kind of quick currency among themselves. All talens can be used only once before reverting to an ordinary object of appropriate form.

Anti-tank Arrows

When this arrow is fired from a bow the user must make a reflexive activation roll. If the arrow hits something that is a valid target for the 'Left-handed Spanner' technology gift, that item is affected as if by that gift. The arrow breaks and is useless if it fails to hit a valid target.

Arrow of Banishment

When this arrow is drawn and a point of essence is fed to the spirit of flame bound within it glows with a slight blue-green light. If the arrow is fired and hits a Breathless the glow will increase to a bright flame and start to consume the Breathless.

The arrow will ignore armour and do +2 levels of lethal damage and set the target on fire as per WoD rules. An arrow that misses is consumed by the spirit instead.

Dead Mans Coin

Each of these Talons has the spirit of a drowned seaman bound into a silver coin and allows the user to escape their fate, for a time and at a cost. The user activates the coin by swallowing it, taking a level of lethal damage but gaining a +3 Stamina bonus for the effects of drowning only.

Ghost Forge

The talen should be empowered by a spirit (probably a death spirit) which has the Ghost Eater Numen).

This talen can only be used for one purpose, to create ghostly objects - (note: this does not create ghost-touched objects as they are something completely different) - and the talen is only usable after the Wake the Spirit rite has been used on a mundane object.

Let there be Darkness

Upon Activation when it is thrown it will put out all lights within 5 feet per success on the Activation roll. Talen may be thrown (Strength+Athletics) using the rules found in MET WoD p75.

Note: this is a "Lodge of the Grotto" Talen and storytellers should consider whether to allow it to be made by non Burrowers carefully.

Smoking Bomb

When activated the small yet potent flash bomb produces a cloud of thick, white smoke which quickly fills an area about the size of a tennis court and lasts for a length of time equal to 2+ the successes from the activation (1 if bribed with Essence). Anyone caught within the smoke finds it difficult to see and will suffer a -4 penalty to actions which require them to see (including ranged combat), actions taken within melee range only suffer a -2 penalty. The bomb may be thrown (Strength+Athletics) using the rules found in MET WoD p75. The user of the Talen is immune to the effects and suffers no penalty.

A spirit of smoke or concealment powers this Talen.

Saint Amand's Brew

The Talen consists of a hip flask containing 3 powerful shots of alcohol, each shot represents a use of the Talen and is consumed upon activation.

An Uratha's natural resilience to toxins makes getting drunk a really costly and time consuming endeavour. This brew suppresses that natural resilience allowing the user to really experience intoxication as an ordinary person would. For an extra bonus the effect doesn't fade with the end of feeling drunk, it lasts to inflict a nasty hangover that resists any attempt to alleviate it.

Talon of the Wolf's Essence

Talen is a small carnivorous mammal's tooth or claw from such an animal as a dog, cat, fox, or some such, bound into it is a lesser gaffling Wolf-Brother. It is activated by being plunged into the Uratha's flesh, causing 1 level of Lethal damage (the blood & pain being the spirit's payment). The damage cannot be healed until the Talen is removed.

When activated, it lasts for a number of rounds equal to the time the Uratha can spend in Gauru form. This can be modified by the phase of the moon as normal, but not by any Gifts or other effects that extend the length of time the Uratha may spend in Gauru form. When the time runs out (or the Talen runs out of Essence), the spirit leaves the Talen and the tooth/claw falls out of the Uratha's body to the floor, lifeless and inert.

The Talen is used to off-set the cost of Gift activation. It has a pool of 3 Essence which may be spent at the rate of 1/turn, over and above the Uratha's normal Essence expenditures, towards the activation cost of any Gifts activated while the Talen is active. It may not reduce the cost below 0, nor reduce it by more than 1 Essence.

Uratha Online: Installer

This is used by the Signal to allow secure access to the IC Forsaken Email list.

At first these were held on a single floppy disk, then on a Zip disk or CD. These days they’re either held on a USB Memory stick (in which case they’re designed to be recharged and reused) or a DVD-Rom (if the user needs to access the email lists on different computers). When activated they allow the computer to communicate with the Signal Solutions main server, leaving a unique identifier each time it does so, allowing the Moderator to quickly trace any irregularities.

A Computer Gaffling uses its Influence to improve the security of the computer, whilst using a specialist Numina to allow messages to get to, and come from, the main Server of the Signal.

Uratha Online: Login

A small lens with flash memory card inserted, when activated it records the name, tribe (if any) and auspice of whoever it is aimed at (note if it is a Wolf blood getting access to the list they need to have a Uratha to vouch for them, or will be invited to meet with one of the Signal who can verify who they are), the Gossip within the Talen will whisper what it knows of the targets. At this time a still image is taken which resembles Two-World Eyes (it shows the renown brands and marks of gifts of the target). Once the information is downloaded to the Signal’s computer the Talen is destroyed.

Uratha Online: Login
Takes an image and records information (held by a Gossip Gaffling) which is then transferred (the information & image, not the spirit) to the main computer of the Signal.
