The Soul-Eater; Devourer of the Self
In 1969 3 great spirits came to the UK and brought pain and terror with them – these were the Idigam. This is the tale of one of these three – the one known as Khan. This terrible creature wrought havoc throughout the Northern parts of England before seemingly settling down to nest in Wales. A great army of Uratha, with a veritable horde of spirit allies, attacked it and drove it towards the Midlands where an Ithaeur known as the Greyshadow had erected a trap to defeat it. He claimed to know its Bans and to be able to use that the bind it so that it could never again threaten the land and a pack was formed to fight in the final fight against it – each giving up their tribes to dedicate themselves to the Idigam. One of each Auspice sacrificed themselves to bind the Soul-eater into stone whilst the rest of the pack fought, and the creature was no more.
STORY
This is the most important story of the character, or at least the bare outline of it. This should be something which allows players to gather the basic outline of the tale allowing it to be remembered and told IC, that details will be different from telling to telling does not matter these tales are remembered and told in the oral tradition and often the pure truth is simply not known.
One version of the re-binding of the Soul-Eater can be read in Rebound in Birmingham.
- Hero/Villain: The Soul-Eater is the villain, the Tribes of the Moon and their spirit allies are the heroes.
- Setting: Throughout the north of England and into Wales, ending up to the north of Birmingham (at what is now Spaghetti Junction).
- Events: After coming from Wales and rampaging through the North of England, driving its victims out of their mind, a virtual army of Uratha (including some of the Pure Tribes) along with many spirits harried it from the lair it had made in Wales back towards an area of the M6 where large-scale junction work was going on. A pack had formed on the instruction of the Greyshadow, each giving up their Tribe in order to focus on the Soul-Eater without distraction. Half of that pack battled it whilst the other half, Greyshadow and 4 others, each without family and each of a different Auspice, undertook the final portion of a Rite a long time in the undertaking. When it was complete the Soul-Eater was no more, bound into the stone of the road, the sacrifice of those five enough to trap it there forever.
- Moral: To achieve victory sometimes you have to sacrifice a lot, sometimes sacrifice is more than just blood.
