Chases Shadows; Something in the dark

Chases Shadows; A tale of Purity

Gather round the fire; I have a tale of duty and loss, of dedication and sadness...

For many years, before the current Packs walked these lands, the Territories were split in two - much as they are now. You all know of the urban Steel Dream Pack and their recent fall from grace but none of you will remember the rural Running Night Pack - they were here before you all came.

Until about five years ago this Pack ran across the whole County; they were almost entirely Menienna and gained much Renown for their love of the land and cunning in battle. They knew every nook and cranny and guarded it with their lives - the whole Pack were scouts and trackers without peer, long used to hunting across the open fields and moors. But that Pack too was torn apart by a traitor to the People; falling to murder and the Pure. The Pack vanished almost overnight and the loss was felt throughout their green territory.

Their blood stained the ground red and they became one with the land that they had loved so dearly.

There the story should have ended but two years ago, just before the call went out and the People returned in numbers to the area, a Forsaken re-emerged from the wilderness. Dirty and covered in blood, almost feral, The Steel Dream Pack recognised him for who he was and welcomed him back to the territory as a Packless Ronin and a scarred veteran. The locals know him as Chases Shadows - the deed name of the Alpha of the lost Running Night Pack. Chase still rarely talks about what happened to him during that period but he returned "darker" than the People remember him, with something lost from his soul.

Chase still mourns the loss of his Pack but continues to patrol their old lands in their memory. He has found and protected new Loci and a Moon Pool, spreading word of their existance and purpose to the new Packs of the area - Packs that he has helped form. He has ever been at the front of battle against enemies to the People and his lands; be they Bale, Pure of hostile Spirits. He has even saved some of you sat here listening or tought you the ways of the People. He has also managed the real trick - fighting off enemies of the People - both Bale and Pure - while maintaining his Oath to the Moon and not killing another Werewolf. It is harder than it sounds when they have no problem in, indeed they would enjoy, tearing out your throat.

Over time his burden has lessened as he has aided the forming of new Packs in the area and they have helped protect the land but he still stands slightly alone. On some nights he still runs the whole boundary to honour their memory. Chase rarely asks for anything and you never knew the Running Night but there are worse things that you could do than run with him in the night and honour their memory. The Territory will forever be marked by their passing and the Duty that Chase still performs.

If you jump and see a shadow in the night then it may well be Chases Shadows - it is up to you if that is a comforting thought or not...
