Tale of the Silence of Battle
Forsaken have never been common in the Highlands of Scotland, an area long dominated by the Pure tribes. Despite this, there had been a presence there for a very long time, the odd pack or two dotting the landscape, carving out their own niches where they could. Life for these tribes has never been easy, the Pure are not usually forgiving neighbours and often Forsaken packs are killed or subjugated.
In the ancient past things were a little easier, fewer people meant fewer packs so the Forsaken had more ground and more freedom to roam in. Back then there was a pack, little details remain of the pack, such as its name or the names of most of those Forsaken who ran with it. One name has survived to be carried down the ages: that of The Silence of Battle, a Blood Talon Irraka.
The pack he ran with did well for themselves, they and the people they associated with had good hunting grounds and lived well. Their lands were bordered by a Pure pack with whom they had a constant rivalry. Despite a great many skirmishes between them, neither side were really able to get the upper hand over the others.
So when the pack heard that the Pure were trying to make an alliance between themselves and another Pure pack further to the South, they knew that they would be unable to hold out against two packs and that their only hope was to sabotage the alliance before it could begin.
The Silence of Battle offered to scout and find out when the meeting was taking place and do everything he could to break up the meeting and stop their alliance. He and his pack staged an ambush for the other Pure pack, the one who was not their neighbour, peppering them with arrows made with silver tips. He then allowed himself to be taken prisoner by the pack.
They tortured him for a long time and under torture he “confessed” to them that they had been assisted in getting the silver by the other Pure pack who wanted them to attack and kill the pack in order to steal their territory, at which point the Forsaken would be left alone to go their own way. Considering that they had just put him through hell, the Pure believed his lies and went to meet the other Pure pack, attacking them in anger.
Instead of an alliance forming, there was a bitter rivalry which resulted in many years of bloodshed between the two Pure packs, leaving the Forsaken to guard their own territory and follow the ways of Mother Luna without Pure interference.
- Hero/Villain: The hero is The Silence of Battle, the Villains are the Pure.
- Setting: In the North of Scotland, exactly where is unknown, but likely in the area now containing Inverness.
- Events: Two Pure packs were meeting to strike up an Alliance that would have caused a lot of problems for the local Forsaken, The Silence of Battle went to interfere.
- Moral: That sometimes, even for a Blood Talon, not all problems are solved through application of violence, at least not directly.
