Old Man River; Court of Cogs

To say that Old Man River was the spirit of a river, or of the idea of rivers, is to capture a part of the truth. This may have been the case, once, but in the time where the strength of rivers started to be harnessed by man this great spirit became in some way the essence of water power, when watermills started to be replaced by steam power that was fine – after all what is steam without water? Nothing! He truly was king the once, but now this is no longer the case, and he wants his throne back.

In some ways it could be said that Old Man River is the spirit most involved in pushing the ideal of the Court of Cogs in regaining the glory days of the past –he is ponderous and powerful – water might not always be the most destructive of forces, but even the still waters of a mill pond run deep, and in Old Man River they run deep and strong.
