Gathering of the Storm: Leaving
Once the time of tales has been done, and some much deserved rest has been had, it becomes right for those who've travelled to leave - and to be seen off with some ceremony. The Lady and the Steward will gather food and drink for a great feasting - though there will always be some game which is on hand for those who'd rather take their fill by tooth and claw.
The feasting and drinking can go on for some time, though the delicate balance of hospitality (since to stay too long will strain the resources of the Guardians of Man, and be impolite) must be maintained.
When all seems in place a horn is sounded and the Steward will rise to thank all for attending. Its expected that a response will be made to thank for the hospitality. At this point the Lady will normally give a guest gift to those who've come; it may have value or not, anything from Talens to weapons to gems, writings, flowers, fruit or plain stone might be given - and its again considered to be impolite not to thank them. If there have been any marriage alliances made the spouse might be 'given' as a gift here also, though this is uncommon.
Guests may give gifts to the Lady or Steward or not, there is no expectation (again, unless marriage alliances have been made in which case the gifts exchanged are often in fact a dowry or other trade for a mate).
Next the Steward will offer a bowl of water and towel to wash the hands of the People (Iminir only), thanking them for visiting and wishing them good speed.
Finally the Lady offers a drink from a ritual vessel, normally an ornate drinking horn. Any who wish it may drink from the vessel; pledging that they came in peace and leave it so. The drink will be of something pleasant (and normally alcholic) - often this is whiskey distilled locally.
Now all that is left is to walk with the visitors to the docks and see them safely from the Island; they came as strangers but leave as friends.
