Enemies of the People
Eisherz; the Ice-heart
- Tribe: Ivory Claw
- Pack: Glorious Storm
- Hero/Villain: Eisherz is the main character in this tale, and can be either the ruthless but brilliant warlord, or the evil and twisted invader (depending on the telling). King Budic can be a foolish figure, or one of great nobility, and his wife Elen can be a traitorous wretch, a foolish girl, or a tragic figure, all depending on the telling and teller.
- Setting: where is the tale set? People disagree, normally putting it in the wilds of Northern England, or Wessex, or Scotland, or Wales, or Cornwall, or perhaps one of the remote islands off Britain's coast - never close to them.
- Events: Eisherz gathers a mighty host together and they journey to the Kingdom of Storms (Lord Thunder's protectorate) where they are met in battle and defeated. In some tellings Eisherz is the natural brother of King Budic and seeks peace, being foully ambushed, in other tales he is related to Elen, King Budic's wolf-blooded wife, and seeks to free her from being Budic's thrall, in others he seeks invasion and land, or to break the great alliance of Moon Tribes, in further others he seeks to pass through the Kingdom of Storms - leading a great crusade to open a gateway to lost Pangaea. In all cases after the defeat of his army King Budic dies having been sorely wounded in the battle. Some say that Eisherz used a sword whose blade was of pure poison, and that killed him, others that he was dead with that final stroke but stayed alive long enough to see his wife one more time, still others that he was being nursed by Elen when she slew him with a knife made of silver, or that she was kidnapped and he died of wounds which re-openned in his chase for her captor. Elen did vanish, leaving only the corpse of King Budic to be found. When her trail was followed she was found tortured to death with a crown of silver on her head, other versions of the tale have her found and tortured to death (and crowned) by her murdered husbands loyal shieldsmen.
