Coniston

Coniston Coppermines YHA

An occasional meeting place for the People has become the Coniston Coppermines YHA, which may be hired for the purpose, and with no other guests (or staff) is almost perfect. Almost halfway up a mountain with a view to match, this hostel is surrounded by fells, allowing hillwalkers easy access onto Wetherlam and the Old Man of Coniston itself.

The Old Man of Coniston

The Old Man of Coniston is a fell in the Furness Fells in the English Lake District. It is 803 m (2,635 ft) high, and lies to the west of the village of Coniston and the lake of the same name, Coniston Water. The fell is sometimes known by the alternate name of Coniston Old Man, or simply The Old Man.

Its known that there is a traditional Tur atop Coniston (rumoured to be at the Old Man itself) but it has fallen out of use in recent years. As a note some of the most violent storms to have hit Northern England are rumoured to be because of Storm Lord gathers at the Old Man.

There are few established or powerful Loci in this part of Cumbria, they tend to form and move, drift and grow, live and die almost at random.
