Calder-Hall; Court of Sparks
Construction began at Calder Hall in Cumbria (now Sellafield) in 1953 on the UK’s first commercial nuclear power station. Calder Hall was connected to the national grid in 1956 and continues to supply electricity to it today, thus becoming the first nuclear power station in the world to provide electricity commercially. The reactors at Calder Hall were a prototype of the Magnox gas cooled reactor.
The story of the Spirit Calder-Hall is similar, and different. Whilst generally its Essence has been gained in the past from the Locus which formed at the heart of the primary reactor over the decades as the spirit gained in power and awareness it became less happy to remain in one place, and as dreams of nuclear-fuelled monsters and robots became more and more common in the dreams of mankind it was able to achieve a sort of mobility. Calder-Hall is now a giant crab-like thing of cooling towers and smoke stacks, with buzzers and lights flashing warnings throughout the landscape of the Hisil. Its great legs allow it to scuttle across the Shadow darting quickly whilst filling the air with greenish-grey steam, where a crab would have mighty claws, mandibles and inscrutable, alien eyes Calder-Hall instead has cranes, emergency lighting rigs and a crazy collection of electrified fences and search lights.
