Legends of the People
Budic - Lord Thunder
- Tribe: Storm Lord (honour)
- Auspice: Ithaeur (wisdom)
- Packs: Thunderwolves (his pack); Band of Thunder/Brotherhood of Thunder/Kingdom of Storms (the alliance of packs)
Lord Thunder was able to unite packs and territories into one protectorate for an extended period (at least a decade, some say for as long as 50 years) by demonstrating his mastery over the Shadow, by creating harmony in the Hisil around his territory and by offering aid to those who swore to him. For some time the combined might of these packs, the mighty warband able to deal with incursions from the Pure, to destroy entire nests of Beshilu and Azlu, to prevent spirits from moving through the Gauntlet and to rule over even the scattered settlements of humans within their territory. All owed homage to King Budic.
When he was slain Lord Thunder was taken by some of his followers and buried in secret, along with his warhelm, his battle horn and his mighty hammer – a weapon he used with great effect on those with a spirit, but never against those without. Within the space of a year the great territory controlled by the Band of Thunder split up into smaller ones and the Kingdom of Storms was no more.
VICTORY AND DEATH
This is the most important story of the character, or at least the bare outline of it, and should be something which reflects their Tribe and/or Auspice. This should be something which allows players to gather the basic outline of the tale allowing it to be remembered and told IC, that details will be different from telling to telling does not matter these tales are remembered and told in the oral tradition and often the pure truth is simply not known.
One version of this tale can be read in Thunders End.
- Hero/Villain: King Budic, the Lord Thunder, is the hero (as are his closest allies), the villains are invading Pure, and Budic’s wife, Elen (who slays the King)
- Setting: where is the tale set? People disagree, normally putting it in the wilds of Northern England, or Wessex, or Scotland, or Wales, or Cornwall, or perhaps one of the remote islands off Britain's coast - never close to them.
- Events: Lord Thunder leads his closest allies, knights and packmates to meet a mighty force of Pure-tribes (mainly berserk Predator Kings and rabid Fire Touched who were led by a cruel Ivory Talon, Eisherz - Iceheart, who had formed a warband of several packs) in battle. Despite being outnumbered heavily the men and wolves of Lord Thunder met the invaders in fair battle and were able to defeat them in a long and hard battle – the tactics of Lord Thunder allowed the more disciplined men and wolves of his warband to defeat the Pure and send them howling from the field. When they returned Budic was sorely wounded in the fight and dismissed his men to their homes to be cared for by the womenfolk. He sought the care of his wife and mate, Elen, who met him with honeyed wine, a warm bath and a silver blade to the heart. She then fled to her new lover – the Ivory Talon Eisherz. Lord Thunders followers discovered his death and set out in pursuit of his killer. Elen was found tortured to death, a crown of silver hammered into her brow.
- Moral: Do not fixate on the obvious foe, avarice can breed enemies anywhere (wisdom). The price for dishonour is death (honour).
